110 Ministry Drive,
The story behind the name:
In 1992, a suburb of Detroit, Mich., voted to change its name from East Detroit to East Pointe in an attempt to affiliate itself with the more affluent neighborhoods of Grosse Pointe and Grosse Pointe Woods, among others.
Duncan grew up in the blue-collar town of Inkster, and when it was announced that East Detroit had changed its name, Duncan’s father joked that Inkster should change its name to Inkpointe to instantly transform the community into an affluent suburb. The tongue-in-cheek jab at East Detroit was a running joke in his family – so much in fact, that Duncan’s mother used it as part of her email address for more than 20 years until her death in 2016.
The story behind the logo:
Inkpointe Financial Group was established in South Carolina, as was Joel. In a nod to our Southern roots, and our commitment to the greater Columbia area where our families live, the “O” in Inkpointe encircles the crescent of the state flag. Though we have varied backgrounds, we believe we are stronger when we take into consideration viewpoints of those from all different schools of thought. Our commitment is to live up to this belief in finding solutions for our clients, no matter where they are from or where they wish to go.
In poking fun at East Detroit so many years ago, a lesson can be learned. First, our focus on financial planning is not an attempt to “keep up with the Joneses” but rather, a focus on your current situation and how we can help make it better. Secondly, we believe a person is able to change their station in life – if done carefully and correctly. Swapping one financial product for another doesn’t necessarily lead to an improved result. Changing your direction, financially, must come along with it a changed attitude and a willingness to stay the course. Let us help you find a personalized route to your destination. We believe we can get there, one step at a time.
